This week at I♥ Faces they are doing Constructive Feedback Friday! I have entered my photo of my daughter Anna to be critiqued. I don't really know what this picture needs. It needs some pizazz, some factor to make it unique...something?
Here is the original:
And here is the edited ones: I am using PS CS4 and Picnik. f/5.6 1/1250 sec. ISO 1600 55mm
She's a cutie! Look at those eyes!
ReplyDeleteI think your settings should have been adjusted some. Even in the shade outdoors, an ISO as high 1600 is a bit excessive and can result in excessive noise (splotchy-ness) in your images. Bring that ISO down when you're outside, no higher than 400 should really be needed. With children, I try to keep my shutter speed at 1/250 or so and adjust other settings accordingly. If you wanted to keep your aperture at 5.6, just tweak the other settings so you can get your ISO down and keep your speed over 1/250. Hopefully that helps some!
Also, as you can tell by the whites in her eyes (they have a bluish cast)the white balance in your image should be adjusted some to warm the photo up and make those eye whites white.
We were told by Pete Lacker at our workshop that he keeps his ISO at 800 most of the time. He also said that the fancy $6,000 cameras now come with a grain/noise filter because people like that. So I think that is just a personal preference:-)
ReplyDeleteI like your first edited version the best. Probably reducing the blue tone would really help it pop. Try black and white also. That would be fun!

Love her big eyes. I had to try my hand at editing the photo. I didn't do a whole lot you can view it on my flickr.

Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteHere is my fix! http://www.flickr.com/photos/42918215@N07/4195702995/
I updated the white balance in lightroom and then used the healing brush in CS4 to take away some of the blemishes on her face. I then used some of my Kubota actions to work on smoothing out some of the blotchiness in her face. This was a fun edit, thanks for participating!
